The Department of Environmental Engineering at Chulalongkorn University was founded in 1953 with the support of University of Texas, and became the first institution in Thailand that offered formal education in environmental engineering. In 1983, the Department helped establish the Environmental Engineering Association of Thailand (EEAT) to be the national hub for exchanging knowledge and information related to environmental engineering. It also took part in the inception of the Professional Engineer License in Environmental Engineering in Thailand. Many of its alumni and senior faculty members are now at the forefront in the area of environmental engineering in the country.
