Background
The Department of Environmental Engineering at Chulalongkorn University was founded in 1953 with the support of University of Texas, and became the first institution in Thailand that offered formal education in environmental engineering. In 1983, the Department helped establish the Environmental Engineering Association of Thailand (EEAT) to be the national hub for exchanging knowledge and information related to environmental engineering. It also took part in the inception of the Professional Engineer License in Environmental Engineering in Thailand. Many of its alumni and senior faculty members are now at the forefront in the area of environmental engineering in the country.

The Department of Environmental Engineering at Chulalongkorn University aims to produce graduates who have high regard for ethics and are well-equipped with both theoretical and practical knowledge and competencies necessary for planning, designing, controlling, advising, and executing environmen tal engineering works. We also aim to become the “pillar of knowledge” and source of reference on environmental engineering that support both domestic and international communities. 
Our faculty members are specialized in various areas of environmental engineering such as water supply and drinking water production process; biological, physical, and chemical methods for waste water treatment; air pollution management; waste and hazardous waste management; decontamina tion of area contaminated by hazardous waste; environmental impact assessment; environmental management; climate change; and assessment of carbon footprint. Over the years, the Department has acquired many state-of-the-art laboratories and advance research equipment to support high quality education and research that meet international standard.
